MODEL OF MULTILITERACY EDUCATION BASED ON PARTICIPATORY RURAL APPRAISAL (PRA) FOR THE RURAL SOCIETY TO INCREASE INDEPENDENCE

This study aims to develop a model of multiliteracy education based on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) in rural society to increase the independence. Method of this research is the development research of Gall, Gall & Borg (2007). Instruments and data collection techniques are using interview, observation, documentation, and forum discussion (FGD). Subjects of the research are learners, tutors and managers of literacy education. The location of the research is in the district of Semarang. The writer uses descriptive qualitative with examining data from interviews, observation, and documentation for the data analysis technique. The analysis of data was started during the process of collecting data, reducting data, presenting data, and by drawing the conclusions and verification. The validity test of the data use a credibility, dependability, confirmability, and transferability. Based on the results of the theory and in the field of data analysis, then was used to develop a conceptual model. The results of the study show that 1) The process of learning literacy education that consists of three aspects; planning, implementation, and evaluation. Management of literacy education was started from the requirements of identification activities as the early activity to arrange the plan lessons. 2) The inhibiting factors include the difficulties of learners in dividing the time to follow the teaching and learning process and their age were above 40 years old and over so that it is difficult to understand the teaching and learning material. The enabling factors include the enthusiasm of society and cooperation of all stakeholders in the implementation of literacy education. 3) This literacy need based on PRA include the financial literacy, media literacy, health literacy and cultural literacy are used for the design of model developed. Model of multiliteracy education based on Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was designed to help the rural society in assessing and solving the problems in their daily life and to increase the independence of the society itself.
